How this site uses cookies and local storage: mostly on-device functional storage, with Google advertising and analytics cookies only after you consent.

Cookies are small text files a website can store in your browser, often used to recognise return visits. This site relies very little on classic tracking cookies. Most of what it keeps is held in your browser's local storage, which stays on your own device and is not transmitted back to us as a cookie. The practical distinction is this: strictly necessary and functional storage is needed for the site to work and is not used to track you, whereas analytics and advertising cookies are set by Google and only ever after you have agreed to them.
When you make a choice about analytics and advertising, your decision is recorded in local storage under the key cookie-consent-v2, together with a timestamp so we know when it was made. A small number of functional keys are also kept entirely on your device: your recent searches and a remembered top destination (vakantieweer_recent_searches and vakantieweer_top_destination), your weather preferences and packing notes, and a short-lived cache of previously fetched weather results (under the weather_cache_ and live_weather_cache_ prefixes). This data stays on your device, is not used to track you across sites, and does not require consent because it is strictly necessary or functional. Clearing your browser storage removes all of it.
Advertising on this site is provided by Google AdSense, and Google's consent mode is used to govern advertising and analytics. These technologies, and any cookies Google may set through them, only come into effect after you have given consent. Until then nothing loads: the advertising code checks your stored consent first and shows no adverts at all if advertising storage has not been granted. We do not name or claim a particular third-party consent platform; the choices are handled by the site's own in-app consent settings rather than an external service.
You remain in control of these choices. You can reopen the site's in-app consent settings at any time to review, change or withdraw your consent for analytics and advertising. Because the site uses Google's consent mode, changes apply immediately: any previously granted permissions are updated to reflect your new choice straight away. You can also use your browser's own controls to clear cookies and local storage, including the consent record itself, after which the site treats you as not yet having decided. We have not invented retention periods or named third parties beyond what the site actually uses.
