Antalya is the gateway to Turkey's Turquoise Coast — a 600-kilometre arc of beaches, pine-covered mountains and ancient ruins running from Kaş to Alanya. The city itself is a million-strong Mediterranean port with an Ottoman old town (Kaleiçi), and the surrounding coast offers everything from all-inclusive resort blocks at Belek to the bohemian fishing village of Kalkan. The climate is among the most reliable in the eastern Mediterranean.
May, June, September and October are ideal — warm sea, full sunshine, manageable temperatures. July and August are very hot (35°C+) but cheap and the sea is at its warmest. April is good for ruins and walking but cool for the sea.
Daytime highs of 15-16°C and around eight rainy days a month. The mountains behind Antalya hold snow — you can ski at Saklıkent in the morning and have a coffee on the Mediterranean by afternoon. Most resorts shut from November to March; the city itself stays open year-round.
April brings the wildflower season and ideal conditions for visiting Termessos, Perge and Aspendos. By May daytime highs reach 26°C, the sea climbs past 19°C, and the first beach holidays of the year begin.
June through August is hot, dry and very sunny: highs of 33-35°C, sea at 26-28°C — among the warmest in the Mediterranean. July and August can hit 38°C inland. The Lycian coast (Kaş, Kalkan) is a few degrees cooler thanks to the mountains.
September is exceptional — sea still 26°C, air backing off to 30°C, evenings comfortable. October is the last beach month with highs around 25°C and warm water until mid-month. By November the autumn rains begin.
Yes — the Mediterranean coast is the most touristed region of Turkey and tourism infrastructure is well-developed. Standard travel precautions apply.
Antalya is hotter, cheaper, and has more impressive ancient ruins (Aspendos, Perge, Side) than most Greek islands. The Greek islands win on small-island atmosphere and food.
Yes for many. Daytime highs of 35°C combined with high humidity make midday inactivity essential. Most travellers shift activity to early morning and evening.
April-May or October. The unshaded Roman theatres and Lycian tombs are punishing in summer; the spring and autumn light is also better for photography.
